Boating Boom Rivals Mining in Mackay

Forget the mining boom, Mackay is experiencing a boating boom, with one boat registered for every eight residents — the highest per capita boat ownership ratio in the State, says Marine Queensland. It’s no surprise then that the Mackay Marine Festival will run again this year after making its debut in 2011.

Held in conjunction with the Mackay Tinnie and Tackle Show and the Mackay leg of the Australian Offshore Superboat Championships on June 23-24, the 2012 event will feature products ranging from offshore fishing boats, tinnies, fibreglass boats, engines, PWCs, marine electronics and accessories. There will also be rides for the kids, food and entertainment to keep the whole family busy. Mackay Marina will again be the venue for this free family event.
