Sydney Boat Show - Fairline Showcases Targa 58 Gran Turismo
Hot on the heels of the recent successes of Fairline Boats’ Targa 58 Gran Turismo, the British luxury motoryacht builder will exhibit its award-winning boat at the Sydney International Boat Show 2012.
Since being voted 2011 Motor Boat of the Year in its category in the UK, Fairline said its sporty Targa 58 GT has been a big hit in Australia — with four sold to date, including two at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show held in May.
The Brit boatbuilder now anticipates keen interest in the model at Sydney’s Darling Harbour, which it regards as a thriving hub for the luxury boat market.
“Market feedback is extremely positive, partly due to an exceptional buying environment and the power of the Australian dollar exchange rate,” said Bryan Jones, president of Fairline Boats Asia.
The express cruiser combines the coveted hallmark of the Fairline Targa, with forward-thinking design and functionality, and a spacious three-cabin layout with optional fourth crew cabin-en suite.
The Targa 58GT provides full-beam accommodation with the master cabin-en suite forward in the hull. Fairline says the open space here is enhanced by plenty of natural daylight and a fully flat floor, which it claimed is not widely available in mid-cabin arrangements.
“This model is especially popular for its innovative design, functionality and Targa style, with sleek design and high-performance,” added Glen Moltoni, who will represent the brand as authorised dealer for NSW, in addition to his current representation of Fairline Western Australia.
Complementing the Targa 58 GT’s popularity are the continuing sales of sister ships, the Squadron 42 and 65 flybridge motoryachts.
“Sales continue to grow not only in Australia, but across the Asia-Pacific, with annual growth of nearly 600 per cent since 2008,” adds Jones.
Fairline Boats has targeted the Australia market with dealerships extending from Western Australia to Queensland and Victoria.

Fairline Targa 58 Gran Turismo
The Fairline Targa 58 Gran Turismo is a spacious three-cabin, three-en suite express cruiser, with an optional fourth-crew cabin and en suite. The design is said to have light and space at its core, encompassing key design trends and technological features to offer bright, open and light-filled accommodation.
With the master cabin and en suite placed forward, Fairline says owners have expansive, full-width accommodation and with only the foredeck above, natural daylight floods through overhead glazing.
Where specified, the fourth cabin is an ideal addition for guests or crew and features glazing in the transom to create a well-lit accommodation space with an en suite option.
“The ability to include a fourth cabin is rare on an express cruiser of this size and is testament to Fairline’s design team, which has utilised space to its optimum,” the builder said.
The enclosed single-level living and galley space can be transformed to offer an open-air space as the electric sunroof glides open at the touch of a button and the panoramic 3m side windows retract. “This allows guests to enjoy the freedom of fresh air from the galley to the transom, a feature unique on a boat of this size and price range,” explains Fairline. In contrast, when an enclosed space is required for weather protection, the cockpit features a powered aft sunshade.
Powered by twin Volvo Penta D13-800 EVC shaftdrive diesel engines, the Targa GT 58 will have an anticipated top speed of 29kts. When powered by twin Volvo Penta D13-900 EVC shaftrive diesels, top speed is expected to jump to 32kts.
