The Alaska 46 Sedan Gen II (above) is making her debut at Sanctuary Cove. Gold Coast-based Australasian Marine Imports says the boat is “heavily appointed” and packed with new features, including a new galley layout and extended full-width hardtop.
Among improvements is the change to a single bi-fold door system alongside dual flip-up windows allowing an open plan layout. A portside wing docking station is also added.
There’s a master stateroom with en suite amidships, and a twin-bunk cabin forward with guest bathroom. Sydney’s Collins Marine unveils the Arvor Weekender (above) in its official Australian show debut at Sanctuary Cove. A derivative of the Arvor fishing boat range, the 7m Weekender has additional features like a larger lockable cabin, big vee-berth, convertible dinette, galley with 12V fridge and gas stove, plus a head compartment and two sinks with pressurised water for family-friendly weekends away. The European-built Weekender includes bowthruster, trim tables and electric windless as standard. BAVARIA POWER

Ensign Ship Brokers present the Bavaria Sport 34 Hard Top (abvoe) in its Australian launch at Sanctuary Cove. The most notable features of the sportscruiser are large side windows and a wide windscreen, providing the skipper with unimpaired visibility and guests with excellent views, even on stormy days. The 10.66m SP34HT has two cabins and one head, the saloon-galley dividing the fore and aft accommodation, while propulsion is from twin 5lt MerCruiser MPI DTS Bravo IIIs. The new Australian luxury marque Belize Motoryachts makes its world boat show debut at the Sanctuary Cove 2012 with the release of the Belize 52 Hardtop (above). “It looks like a trawler, but it’s swift,” so said Allan Whiting in his test of the Beneteau Swift Trawler 44 in July last year. And that was no pun. That 45-plus-footer (length overall), exhibited at Sanctuary Cove by JW Marine, with brand-new engines and eight people onboard touched 25kts at WOT in our sea trials, without any indication that it has too much bulk and windage aloft to handle like a sportsboat. BENETEAU SAIL

There will be a Limited Edition version of the Beneteau Oceanis 34 cruiser (above) on show at Sanctuary Cove, featuring a new Grey Pearl hull colour, hull decal, embossed upholstery, and an Apple iPad II with Beneteau stamp. Depending on the delivery timeframe, the yacht will be joined by either the Sense 43 or Oceanis 45. The former is being exhibited for the first time in Queensland and the latter is the newest to join the popular and extensive Oceanis range. No Australian boat show would be complete without Melbourne’s International Marine, this year displaying the Caribbean 40 MkII alongside the C35 MkIII (above). The two flybridge cruisers are both powered by twin diesels, with cruise speeds between 20 and 24kts, and are updated models utilising the same great offshore hulls with new extended flybridges, redesigned interiors, modern furniture and contemporary fit and finish.

CATALINA

Sanctuary Cove-based Ausail Marine Group (AMG) is displaying two new keelboats from America’s Catalina Yachts — a C315 from its Cruiser Series and the C385 (above), the entry-level model of its Ocean Series range — at next month’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show 2012.
According to the dealership, the new Catalina 315 raises the yacht brand to a higher level of performance, finish and engineering achievement, with all the style, refinement and the best elements of the larger Catalina 5 Series boats. With core attributes of the award-winning 445 and 355, the 315, we’re told, includes features that are not found in many of the world’s yachts, yet come standard with the Catalina 5 Series. For those who like to mix speed with cruising, Multihull Solutions introduces the new carbon fibre Catana 47 sailcat (above) in its Australian debut at Sanctuary Cove. The high-performance cat is lighter and stronger than its predecessor and with big daggerboards points better as well. With three cabins, six can be accommodated aboard the ocean-voyager, which has been timed at 25kts in initial sea trails, we’re told. Multihull Solutions will also display the 14.3m Fountaine Pajot Salina 48 Evolution four-cabin sailcat and the 12m Summerland 40 from Fountaine Pajot’s Trawler powercat brand, which has a reported range of 1000nm at 7.5kts. If you’re a fan of America’s sporty Chaparrals, don’t look for the bigger end of the range on the water at Sanctuary Cove. The builder’s Australian distributor, Melbourne’s Chaparral Boat Australia, has a hardstand display this year (off Masthead Way) for its nine-boat display. The exhibition includes seven trailerable models and the Queensland debuts of the 327 SSX and the 330 Signature cruiser. The 327 SSX (above) covers a lot of bases — a dayboat, family bowrider, plus an overnighter with a double cabin and separate head. Clipper Motor Yachts will display its Hudson Bay 50 (above) in a world boat show launch, alongside the builder’s more traditional Cordova 45. In a radical departure for Clipper, noted for producing semi-displacement trawler yachts, the Hudson Bay 50 is a sedan-style cruiser targeting weekend family boaters. “We are truly excited about this new range,” says Clipper’s Brett Thurley. “The company has spent a great deal of time and energy to ensure they combine the classic lines for which Clippers are renowned with the relaxed lifestyle aspects of a sedan cruiser.” Available in either a two- or three-cabin layout, the Hudson Bay 50 also features an optional unique hydraulic passarelle and tender lift. Australian owned and Vietnamese built, the Corsair Marine range of trailerable trimarans will be represented by its new racing star, the Corsair 750 Sprint MkII (above). Multihull Central’s Australian Corsair dealer Dave Renouf is on a winning streak on the new 24-footer, so far this year taking out Port Lincoln Race Week and the multihull division at Geelong’s Festival of Sails. Featuring a new deck design with a racing-oriented cockpit and increased foredeck sailability the 750 Sprint MkII is also targeting the small-boat cruiser market for couples or families. An Italian-built Falcon 90 (above) will be among the biggest boats on display at SCIBS. Built by Falcon Yachts, Norseman was originally constructed for charter operations in European waters and features three large guest cabins with en suites and a full-beam stateroom with en suite and walk-in robe. The MTU Series 91 engines are said to provide exceptional performance in all conditions and give the superyacht a general cruising speed of 12kts at 140lt/h. Norseman also boasts 28kts at full throttle. She has spent two seasons in the Mediterranean and two seasons in Australia and is seeking expressions of interest, for sale at $5.8m. The stunning long-range Fleming 55 passagemaker returns to Sanctuary Cove, and this year incorporates several options for Australian conditions. Sam Nicholas from Fleming Yachts Australia, says Fleming 55 hull no.223 is the builder’s only SCIBS show boat, but features customisations by her Brisbane owner that have now been added to the options list for Australian buyers. Of note are the extended boat deck for more shade in the cockpit, an extended swimplatform, and faux wood fibreglass rail capping instead of high-maintenance teak. The latter is finished in clear gelcoat and just needs to be polished with the rest of boat. We’re told there are 11 Flemings now in Australian waters, including one in PNG, and 10 of them are 55s. Sanctuary Cove is the world launch for the Grand Banks 72 Aleutian Stretch Cockpit (SC). The biggest boat at Sanctuary Cove is the 29.57m Horizon 97 RPH Motor Yacht (above). US Yachts, the local agents for the value-for-money Hunter keelboats, will have two yachts on display, a 39 and a 45DS (above). The Hunter 39 is a midsize cruiser with twin helms, roomy saloon and a full-beam aft stateroom and forepeak cabin. The new Hunter 45DS also has twin-wheel steering, expanded aft stateroom with a queen-berth on the centreline, and a forward cabin with side-mounted double berth and en suite vanity and enclosed head and shower compartment opposite. Jeanneau Australia and Queensland importer Mooloolaba Yacht Brokers host the Australian show debut of the first of the new deck saloon range, the Sun Odyssey 44DS (above). This model was only launched at the Paris boat show in December and paying particular attention to feedback from Australian customers, its interior has no fewer than 16 opening ports for “superb” ventilation throughout. The aft owner’s cabin has a large opening port at the transom that also offers a wide view astern. A relatively new American yard, Boston’s MJM Yachts (founded 2002) launches into Australia at Sanctuary Cove. Displayed is the new MJM 36z Downeast cruiser (above), and like the name implies, has timeless Down East styling. Robert Hawke from Sydney-based MJM Yachts Australia says the 36-footer is a refreshing take on the design. “It’s also lively, easy to dock, shallow drafted and a good entertainer,” he tells us. With a modified dee-vee planing hull and powered by twin 220hp Volvo Penta D3 turbo-diesel sterndrives, the 36z has a top speed of 34kts and an offshore cruise of 25 to 28kts. Unique are roll-up side-clears and opening front windows on the three-sided wheelhouse, merging the interior with the cockpit al fresco fashion. The third model to be released under Bill Barry-Cotter’s new line is the Mustang 43 Sports Cruiser. The twin-diesel shaftdrive is making its world debut at this year’s Sanctuary Cove. The new 43 has three cabins, a bathroom with separate shower, enclosed hardtop, starboardside galley with Euro appliances and cockpit with alfresco seating. The new Mustang range was released at last year’s Sanctuary Cove show with the 32. The Outer Reef 63 motoryacht (above) is a long-range passagemaker, and the one on display at Sanctuary Cove will have travelled from Melbourne for the show. Local agent Andrew Coffey says the six-day journey will be at an economical 8.3kts. Out test of the Outer Reef 63 found the two 503hp Caterpillar C9 electronic diesels at that speed had a total consumption of a frugal 22lt/h. Americans love ’em, and Australians will finally get to see what all the fuss is about when Palm Beach Motor Yachts exhibit their new PB 55 and PB 45 (above) for the first time at Sanctuary Cove. For two years running, the Sydney builder has come away from the Newport International Boat Show, Rhode Island, with two awards. The PB 55 captured the Best Powerboat 30ft & Over category last year, following the brand’s debut at the show a year earlier when it won the Best New Powerboat award for the PB 50. The new Pelorus 44 (above) should find a niche in the crowded trawler yacht market. Mooloolaba Yacht Brokers will exhibit the super-efficient powercat Prowler NZ 10.4 (above). A Formula Cruisers brand, the Kiwi cat is designed by Australian designer Jeff Schionning and features long, slender hulls that slice through the water and don’t skim or plane. “The transition through the speed range is completely smooth and the hulls leave almost no wash behind, testament to the vessels incredible efficiency,” said the builder. Sirocco Marine will have a massive display of tenders and amphibians at Sanctuary Cove. The new Sealegs took three years to develop and critical to the design was weight distribution with the addition of a cabin and the extra lengths, for travel both on land and water. The newest addition to the electronic-maker’s range of thermal night-vision products for boaters is the T470SC gyro-stabilised thermal camera. Engineered with FLIR thermal imaging technology, the T470SC features a high-resolution, long-range thermal imager, a colour low-light visible TV camera with 10:1 optical zoom, and active gyro-stabilisation. Using internal gyroscopes to compensate for boat movement automatically, the T470SC’s active gyro-stabilisation is said to provide a steady image when seas are rough. “Now boaters can have the best of both worlds: the power to see small objects from great distances, and smooth imagery on the open water,” says Raymarine. FINSCAN

Marine electronics manufacturer FinScan has included the IntelliCORE Smart Power system as a standard feature on the Palm Beach 45 on show at Sanctuary Cove. The system includes AC-power source management with reverse polarity disconnect, AC/DC Digital switching, and monitoring of all batteries and tank levels from one helm-mounted touchscreen. FinScan said by utilising IntelliCORE, Palm Beach have simplified the electrical installation with “significantly” less wiring and switching. All systems are operated from one touchscreen (above) including graphical switching and easy navigation between AC sources, DC systems, and battery and tank monitoring screens. GME AIS

Australia’s GME will debut its soon-to-be-released Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) at Sanctuary Cove, consisting of a Class B transceiver, Receiver, and Antenna Splitter. AIS benefits are well recognised in commercial marine and leisure boaters can access key attributes of the system through Class B transceiver (GME AIST120) and receiver modules (GME AISR120). Boats equipped with AIS automatically share and update their position, speed, course and other information such as vessel ID with similarly-equipped craft. The AISS120 Splitter permits a VHF antenna to serve both the AIS device and the VHF radio without any degradation of signal.
