2015 Boat Review: Arvor 690D

“The Evolution of Arvor started almost 17 years ago when it was born,” says Peter Collins from Arvor Australia, the NSW-based agent for Arvor Boats. “Since that time there weren’t many changes — until now,” he says.

NEW ARVOR DIESEL BOATS

The Arvor 690D and sibling Arvor 730D differ significantly from its predecessor Arvor boats with a completely revamped cabin and deck. What hasn’t changed, says Peter, is the stable hull and value of a diesel shaftdrive.

The fibreglass Arvor 690D substitutes a sloping windscreen, which had a tendency to reduce cabin space, with a trawler-style cabin with an upright windscreen. As a result, the cabin interior feels very spacious and offers 360° vision with all-round glass. There’s a lockable cabin door, ventilation through side windows, and a cabin hatch on top of the Arvor hardtop. A vee-berth grows becomes even bigger once you add bunk infills to provide a generous bed.

Arvor Boats are known for their spacious deck layout. Indeed, the Arvor 690D is very much a safe boat, very suitable for families, thanks to its high gunwales. Non-skid fibreglass is found throughout and as a bonus, it’s easy to wash down. Massive amounts of storage are also found under the floor for fenders, ropes and other marine gear.

For the fishing boat orientated, the transom has a decent livebait tank with a viewing window. A pull-out side-lounge conveniently folds in and back out of the way. A second fold-out side-lounge can be installed as an option.

Power comes from a 115hp Mercury Diesel shaftdrive. Access is via the large engine hatch with gas struts.

Check out the big sibling, the Arvor 730D.
