23ft COBIA FISHING BOAT IN FNQ

Cobia Fishing Boat: 2013 Review

The TrailerBoat Torture Test saw four trailer boats launch at Cooktown. The final boat in the line-up of bots tested was a 23ft Cobia.

Typical of American boats, she’s heavy in the shoulders and gives great stability at rest but a bumpy ride at speed. The walkaround showed its full potential with casting opportunities everywhere as well as plenty of storage.

ON THE WATER

The Cobia offers reasonable comfort but excels at handling the rough weather whenever necessary. During the Torture Test, owner Andy and his Cobia held their own, taking in some enormous fish.

With these sorts of boats you’re expecting to be on the water for long periods. While this makes them especially suitable for trolling in all sorts of conditions off-shore, it also means they’re suited for simply relaxing around the reefs.

On the back was a 250hp Yamaha four-stroke outboard, providing quiet and fuel-efficient power. More importantly, when you’re on the back of that wave, it actually has the torque to push you through and hold you there.

Try as we might, we couldn't bust any of the boats or motors that went on the TrailerBoat Torture Test to Far North Queensland.
