New marine festival for Queensland

New marine festival for Queensland

Keep June 25-26 free in your calendar for the Mackay Marine Festival — a new event that incorporates the Mackay Tinnie and Tackle Show and the Mackay Offshore Superboat Championships.

Mackay Marina has been confirmed as the venue for the festival, which according to Marine Queensland events manager, Jason Plant, has space for trailerable boat displays as well as on-water displays and demonstrations.

“By putting on a festival that is solely dedicated to the on-water lifestyle we aim to bring to the region the new product releases and the fishing talks and demonstrations that have been enjoyed by visitors to the southern based shows for years,” said Plant.

The festival showcases the travelling Fishing Expo Stage and visitors can also experience Round 2 of the Offshore Superboat Championships that sees boats travel up to 270kmh (we’re told the rock wall along the Marina has one of the best viewing spots).

According to Marine Queensland, the Mackay region has one of Queensland’s highest per capita boat ownership ratios, with one boat registered for every eight residents.
