Since this classic Wayne Tipper five-cabin design was launched in Queensland in 1998, it’s had two owners, as well as a complete refit in 2005. Having finished their extensive ocean exploration on this rugged 71 footer the current owners have turned inland for RV voyaging instead, which creates a fantastic opportunity for some other lucky folk to skipper MV Allure to new horizons. Perhaps the far reaches of Australia where the Southern Ocean crashes into the shores of Tasmania? Allure's long-range tanks and high gunwales are ideal for reaching Port Davey or the upper reaches of Macquarie Harbour.
Or those among us who favour migrating north for the winter might motor up to chase the Spanish mackerel inside the Great Barrier Reef then the Top End for Barra season. MV Allure is extensively equipped to succeed in such endeavours, given the five-month voyages her previous owners undertook. This is a fact that broker Steve Batton clearly recognised during his initial inspection. “The boat has so much redundancy it’s not funny; there are back up pumps for the backup pumps.”
TRIPLE-TIERED LIVING
A superstructure that has a pilothouse, flybridge and sheltered deck makes MV Allure an all season cruiser – especially since clears surround the aft deck and flybridge. High bulwarks are ideal fishing perches and safe at sea, while the aft deck is fully covered to provide sheltered alfresco dining for eight. Above, two dinghies are ready to be swung into action from a central davit, while a wide swim platform gives easy boarding and water access from behind. Other essential deck gear on Allure includes a large windlass/capstan with twin sets of rode and a deep chain locker. There is also an extensive array of fishing equipment including outriggers, rod holders, bait tanks and holding bins. Explorers will also enjoy the scuba gear in the large lazarette which also houses a dive compressor.
Traditionalists will appreciate the classic timber-work throughout the living areas including silver ash floors. The saloon has a cocktail bar along with a 10-seater table and comfortable lounge seating. Entertainment includes satellite television and a modern hifi system.
Alongside the saloon and offset to starboard is the longitudinal galley. This is a commercial kitchen, making it ideal for crew. It has a 900mm Waldorf gas oven and cooktops, BBQ hotplate, microwave, dishwasher drawer, extractor fan and separate pantry.
Forward from the saloon is the wheelhouse, which also has deck access on both sides. Main engine controls include a bow thruster, twin throttles for the Catepillars and autopilot, plus buttons for the Naiad Stabilisers. The wheelhouse uses most of the 18-foot beam to facilitate an extensive array of electronics with inbuilt redundancy, such as double GPS, radar and sonar units. Essential long range communications include High Frequency radio and satellite phone. The skipper also benefits from the Allure's five camera surveillance monitoring system.
For shoal waters, the flybridge gives the skipper clear views. Easily accessible from inside the wheelhouse, the moulded GRP structure houses a comfortable lounge, wet/grill bar and steering. The fibreglass roof lets the breeze through, rather than the rays, while the area can also be sealed with clears if need be.
STURDY SPOTTED GUM HULL
Allure's hull is constructed from two-inch spotted gum to the gunwale and oregon above. “This timber planked boat is built so well you can’t tell it’s timber; a masterpiece that has been designed and built for long range cruising,” explains broker Steve Batton.
Allure was further enhanced in 2005 by Norman Wright and Sons. The fuel capacity of 12,000 litres allows extended cruising with an average speed of 10 knots. Other essentials include two 60 KVA Hino generators and a Dolphin desalination unit that supplies fresh water to the 5,000 litre water tank. Other notable equipment includes a ITIM Fire Protection system and Floscan Fuel monitoring system.
Allure is clearly ready for the Australian summer. A Marine Survey dated 3/3/18 is available for any genuine buyers upon request from Steve Batton.
