15 Must-See New Marine Gear Items at Sanctuary Cove 2016

World’s first LPG-powered outboard motor

Southern Seas Marine’s LEHR LPG-powered outboard motor range debuts in Australia at the 2016 Sanctuary Cove Boat Show.

The range offers the world’s first LPG-powered outboards. The most awarded propane company in the world, LEHR outboards is said to present an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to gasoline.

The distributor says propane is 50 times cleaner than gasoline, with 96 per cent fewer carcinogenic compounds, and 60 to70 per cent less smog-producing hydrocarbons. Easy to start, with no choke and no priming required, there’s no carburettor gum-up and no messy premix or petrol storage.

Said to be dedicated to a cleaner planet, the LEHR LPG outboard motor range uses patented technology to ensure they are the cleanest and greenest outboards.

Southern Seas Marine also has new windlass models from Lofrans; a new model from Watt and Sea; a new lightweight head from Sani Marine with built-in supply pump; and Corrosion X, a range of penetrating and lubrication products for extreme environments.

Spinlock Lume-On LED lifejacket via Harken

SCIBS 2016 will see the Australian launch of Harken’s Lume-On Bladder light from Spinlock.

Spinlock’s Lume-On is not a conventional lifejacket light – rather, an addition to a typical lifejacket light. While integrated lights provide a sharp, single beam, the Lume-On illuminates the whole of the lifejacket bladder. Lume-On features compact LEDs that stick to the underbelly of each bladder and use the large fluorescent surface as a diffuser to maximise visibility.

Water activated, Lume-On easily attaches and integrates to lifejackets with separate bladder and cover construction.

Marine LED lighting from AMW

Australian Marine Wholesale (AMW) is launching three new products at this year’s Sanctuary Cove Show: the new Pacific Light Water Makers; Lumitec colour-changing LED underwater lights, the Lumitec Maxillume h60; and the Lumitec Maxillume h120.

Late last year, AMW was appointed exclusive Australian distributor of the Pacific Light range of water makers. These are easy to use, delivering fresh water said to be as good, if not better, than bottled water, and are designed for boat-owners wanting to avoid complex and expensive automated built-in systems without compromising on quality engineering, componentry or support.

Also from AMW this year are the latest lights from Lumitec, built using state-of-the-art technology, the highest quality materials and designed to run cooler, consume less power and last longer than other conventional underwater lighting technologies.

Another offering from the Lumitec range is Lumitec Maxillume. Customers with high expectations, from the world’s top custom yacht builders to the US Coast Guard, have relied on Maxillume flood lights for nearly a decade. At SCIBS 2016, AMW is showcasing the Lumitec Maxillume h60. Packing more than 6000 true lumens, the Maxillume h60 boasts twice the output of previous models, with new mounting options and Lumitec’s tried and tested internal dimmer control. Each light is designed, hand assembled, and tested at Lumitec’s USA manufacturing facility.

AMW will also display the new Maxillume h120, poised to set a new standard in DC work lights. Delivering more than 12,000 true lumens in heavy duty aluminium cases, these lights are engineered to work hard. Designed to replace GE QF quartz floodlights, they are water-sealed and tested to withstand vibration and shock. The Maxillume h120 is the ultimate work light for the toughest jobs.

As the speed is fully adjustable, there’s no anchor shock on retrieval while a faster launch is possible if needed, all at the turn of a dial. The Vari winch also reduces battery drain and electrical noise, and increases motor life.

Swift Marine aluminium-hulled ribs

SCIBS veteran Swift Marine has taken additional space in the Main Pavilion this year. Principal Scott Wilson said Swift Marine is bringing examples from the imported Highfield range as well as its locally made Swift RIBs to SCIBS.

Highfield inflatables have evolved in some of the toughest conditions in the world, including the Great Barrier Reef. They are direct descendants of the Australian Swift Marine range of aluminium-hulled RIBs, which have now been in service for more than 20 years.

Swift Marine has supplied boats for leisure as well as professional uses, with Australia’s water police and government agencies having a number of Swift RIBs in their fleets.

“We will have around 10 boats on show, ranging from 2m to 4.6m, and a full range of accessories,” Mr Wilson said. “We prefer the Main Pavilion because it’s a ‘rain, hail or shine’ venue and also a great place to showcase our products.”
