CMS 10-Metre Crewboat Designs

CMS, the Melbourne-based marine design and consulting firm, has released details of a new 10m crewboat design that draws on a successful charter fishing boat design.

A reconfigured version of 9.5m offshore fishing vessel Papa Zulu (shown) built for Tasmanian operator Zulu Fishing Charters in 2011, the 10m crewboat shares the same stability and performance. Rather than the twin Mercury outboards specified by Zulu, the new design has a single Yanmar 6CXB-GT inboard. According to CMS it provides the exceptional reliability required in this type of vessel.

“The hullform of the 9.5m CMS offshore fishing boat has proven very capable in a range of conditions, and this gives the design a variety of applications,” CMS principal Sean Johnston said. “This hull has been applied to designs for a crewboat, a general workboat, and even a high-speed patrol craft.”

The aluminium hull is specified to commercial offshore standards, meeting Lloyds Register 4G classification. With an overall beam of 3.6m, the hull used for the crewboat version is slightly wider than Papa Zulu which Johnston says provides solid stability at speed or stationary. Waterjet and shaft-drive propulsion options are available, with speed around 28kt, and the design is configured for up to 12 passengers.
