Go Anywhere, Do Anything

This innovative RIB offers the ultimate adventure experience plus a few family-friendly features; Sealegs, hold my beer.

Conversations on amphibious vehicles tend to be focused around military applications and quirky tourism operators, whereas the latest amphibious RIB from Sealegs prompts us to consider things from a slightly more domestic point of view. This 7.5m go-anywhere vessel has been engineered with equal measures of adventure potential and family-friendly comfort. Just imagine the kind of day trips you could take with friends and family in one of these!

As with all popular Sealegs models, the new 7.5 Semi-Cab RIB can switch from a capable on-water cruiser to a rugged land roving vehicle at the push of a button (with a choice of electric or hydraulic drive) and then rumble along on its 26in all-terrain tyres. The main point of difference on this new Semi-Cab is an electric windscreen that can be extended or retracted according to the whims of those on board. This enables families and groups of friends to set out in comfort, no matter the conditions. And thanks to a considered design, there aren't any pillars left to interrupt the view when the screen is lowered.

The centre console we're used to seeing on RIB models has been swapped for a full width wrap-around console which produces a large sheltered area behind the windscreen.

Sealegs CEO David McKee Wright explains the thoughts behind the new design: “Around the world Sealegs owners seek to maximise their time on the water without compromise. The full-width windscreen provides panoramic views in either its extended or retracted positions, and allows enjoyable boating regardless of weather.”

On the water, Sealegs' RIBs achieve excellent balance and handling with the use of Hydrasol technology. A standard 200hp outboard gives enough thrust to push up to speeds around 40kt, while an inboard Briggs & Stratton petrol engine channels 35hp to the all-wheel drive drivetrain (which can be optioned with a momentary diff lock). On land, speeds are a more pedestrian 7.5km/h; it may not sound like much, but until you've seen a Sealegs boat pick itself up out of the water and roll onto the beach, it's hard for you to picture exactly how impressive it is in practice.

The pricetag, on the other hand, is somewhat less pedestrian. With a base price of $225,940, not every suburban fisho will be rushing to swap the tinnie for a Sealegs RIB.

But of course, those who have a real yearning for adventure and an appetite for the unusual, they're the ones who'll set their sights these unmatched amphibious beauties.
