Preloved: Hampton Endurance 680

Carefree luxury meets long-distance capability in this proven cruiser, bound to transform life on the water

Designed and constructed for long distance cruising, but equally suited to short-haul relaxation and adventuring, this 2011 Hampton Endurance 680 has a proven track record that includes a Tasmanian circumnavigation and exploration voyages to the islands of far north Queensland.

The hull architecture is a trawler-style for easy passage-making and fuel efficiency. Construction is stronger than most with Kevlar reinforcement transversely from chine to chine as well as triple layering forward. A degree of redundancy has been incorporated into the extensive inventory for added reliability and a sense of security in remote locations. The interiors exhibit superior craftsmanship and contemporary design with top quality materials and furnishings.

Amalfi draws attention not only through its seaworthy lines but because the hull has been custom-painted in metallic silver, which creates a distinctive divergence from the white superstructure. A comparatively short foredeck allows extra length for the main saloon and pilothouse structures and therefore creates more comfort and liveable space inside. A Portuguese bridge is always a desirable attribute with its superb vantage point when cruising, especially when protected by a for’d extension of the main cabin’s hardtop.

Equally, an aft extension of the main cabin roofline fully protects the cockpit, which is reached via twin sets of steps from either side of the boarding platform. A wide lounge is centrally aft in the cockpit with an attractively curvaceous table large enough for full dining as well as simpler refreshments. Twin wing stations enable engine and ship handling from either side of the cockpit.

Wide stairs to the pilothouse lead up from the port side while a large door leads into a magnificent saloon. Artisan-quality gloss cherry timberwork (including a ceiling lighting feature) highlights soft-toned carpets and Alcantara upholstery with extensive lounges and armchairs to keep everyone comfortable and happy.

Forward of this leisure and entertainment area is the island galley projecting in from starboard with a Miele five-burner cooktop, oven and grill plus microwave and dishwasher. Blanco dual Grohe tapware features in the benchtop workspaces, surrounded by storage areas aplenty in beautiful timber cabinets. Throughout the Endurance 680 there are three full-size LG refrigerators and a full-size LG freezer. Twin S&K 112-litres per hour watermakers add capacity to the 1,892-litre fresh water tank.

There is breakfast/bar-style seating along the front of the galley facing into another saloon area that introduces a large dining arrangement with U-shaped lounges around the table. That is right at the front of the main cabin and is surrounded by panoramic windows for outstanding views. A side door provides ready access to the decks.

Downstairs, the owner’s stateroom is full beam amidships with an island king berth in a truly luxurious setting that provides generous floor space and storage with a charming ensuite. Right forward is a ‘VIP’ stateroom with an island berth and its own ensuite; there’s a washer/dryer in this area too. Between the owner and VIP staterooms to port is another guest cabin with twin over-and-under berths and it has an ensuite as well, albeit smaller. A fourth twin-berth cabin and day head complete the accommodations.

Power is provided by a pair of Caterpillar C18 ACERT (Advanced Combustion Emissions Reduction Technology) 873-horsepower diesels which have logged a moderate 2,370 operational hours. They cruise the Endurance 680 at an easy 10 knots, consuming about 50 litres per hour at that economical speed. Maximum velocity is around 19 knots.  Fuel load is divided across five tanks totalling 10,000 litres to allow for long distance cruising in remote areas.

To control the Cats, the skipper benefits from a gorgeous pilothouse. Air-conditioned of course, as is the rest of the Hampton with seven Marine Air units altogether, the helm position is forward with twin Pompanette chairs facing a masterful dash panel with triple Garmin 15-inch colour displays. Navionics charting and a 72-mile open-array radar plus twin Tracvision KVH satellite domes all assist with navigation and watch-keeping.

Sidepower bow and stern thrusters help with manoeuvring and Wesmar Fin stabilisers keep everything steady in a seaway whilst hydraulic tabs maintain optimum trim. Through an aft door is an open deck area, mostly sheltered by an overhead cover and providing L-shaped sofas around a table with an island wet bar and full facilities for entertaining. Further aft is the Caribe D14 tender with its 1,500-pound-capacity hydraulic Bower davit.

Amalfi has been professionally maintained and is in immaculate condition, having been serviced, anti-fouled and detailed recently in March. On display at Sanctuary Cove with worldwide central agents and Hampton Yacht dealers Leigh-Smith Yachts, this Hampton Endurance 680 is ready for her next custodians to enjoy, with capabilities for any of a variety of roles in which they might care to indulge.
