Review: Antares 11

Modular entertaining spaces and clever design tweaks ensure the Antares 11 coupe feels much larger than its 11m length

If there’s one design trend we have been only too happy to welcome from the world of superyachts, it has to be the opening side platform, or ‘Sea View Terrace’ as some prefer to call it.

You superyacht types can keep your spy submarines and helipads and tenders that launch out of holes in the hull — us regular folk are more than happy to enjoy the extra space in our more modestly sized vessels that is now afforded by the introduction of the Sea View Terrace.

The Antares 11 coupe is a new launch from the Beneteau family that wisely makes the most of an expanded deck area through this use of an opening hull section that allows water-level access.

Whether you’re dangling your toes, or stepping aboard from the dock, this simple innovation is bang on.

But there’s much more to the Antares 11 than swinging hull panels.

Described as a family cruiser or weekender, the Antares 11 is certainly capable of more than just sedate cruising, thanks to a pair of thumping 250hp Verado outboards on the stern.

Below decks there’s an ensuite VIP cabin for two in the bow and another in the stern that also features a single bunk — ideal for families.

When combined with a convertible double in the saloon, this 11m vessel can suddenly cater for seven overnight guests who will also find plenty of spaces to move about the boat.

A covered sunpad offers a spot to relax on the bow, or step aft via the walkaround decks to discover another modular entertaining space in the cockpit.

Here, an L-shaped lounge converts to a sunbed and it’s right next to that handy hull door onto the Sea View Terrace.

Overhead, a retractable bimini offers sunshine or shade, depending on the weather and there’s a single-level flush deck between outdoors and in.

Stepping past the well-equipped galley, there’s a starboard side helm where the skipper will enjoy more skylights overhead and there’s convenient access to the side decks through a helm door.

As a dayboat or weekender, the Antares 11 has plenty to offer in a competitive market segment and those modular design tweaks will be great fun to examine when we get our hands on a review model.
